Our mission is simple: protect working families, seniors on fixed incomes, and small businesses from the increased cost of any auto no-fault legislation proposed in Lansing. We stand opposed to any auto no-fault legislation that adds costs to Michigan drivers at a time when they can least afford it.

Why it Matters:

How could potential legislation change the auto no-fault system?

Due to the 2019 reforms, Michigan’s drivers have seen considerable savings to the tune of $6.5 billion. Over 200,000 uninsured drivers in Michigan were finally able to purchase the protection they deserved. The savings for Michiganders were made possible by reducing abusive medical charges and billing practices by medical providers while adding choice in the amount of insurance Michigan drivers have to purchase.

Michiganders should watch for any auto no-fault legislation that would take us back to medical price gouging or limit your ability to choose lower policy limits. Even with the 2019 reforms, Michigan still requires its residents to buy higher policy limits than any other state.

The Department of Financial & Insurance Services, Michigan’s consumer protection agency, stated changes proposed in 2024 “would have a significant impact on auto insurance premiums paid by more than seven million drivers”.  We can’t go backward.

The Bottom Line: We need to continue to take action to protect access to affordable auto insurance for Michigan’s working families, seniors on fixed incomes, and small businesses. We need to preserve the 2019 reforms that provide choice and lower rates for the 7.2 million Michiganders who must purchase auto insurance to drive to work, take their kids to school, and drive to the grocery store.
